HPI_Savage25
So we bought a 2003 VW Beetle convertible back in 03 when it was brand new. Automatic transmission. The vehicle has 61,000 miles on it. Anyways the transmission has been slipping at times and downshifts REALLY hard. Took it to the dealer, couldn't find anything wrong with it. So I drove it and got the mechanic to ride with me, and he says "OH yeah I see what you mean now". So they decided to take a look at it. Few days later and no call, I call up and ask them what is going on. They then start telling me I need a new transmission. Guess how much!? $2500? NO (I WISH!) $3500? NOPE! $5000? NOPE!!!! Ready for this? $7000!!!!! $6500 for the trans and the rest is labor/fees. Sorry rant over.... Time to start searching around for another shop or do this myself. AI James
at 7k thats another 03 beetle. you can try this im about to do it to my 98 jetta, if trans is on the way out you dont have anything to loose and the fix is just the cost of a filter/gasket and fluid and of course your time. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=62154
S15_Silvia
The short answer: don't have the dealer do it.
