We are in the process of building a box for my 01 ranger and want to no if a port on the side of the box would be a good design? Or does any one have any suggestions?

A port on the side of the box will sound great provided you give the port enough room to flow.

The reason a side port works well is that you get a little extra "bump" from the side of the truck pushing back against the port. Some guys swear by the port on the driver's side, but I think you need to play with in you truck a little bit for best results.

listen to any advice he gives. I dont think ive ever seen him give bad advice, ive never seen any from him atleast.

tbh, sub up port to the passenger side and box pushed all the way to the driver was one of the loudest to the ear installs i heard using like prefab stuff. Side port could definately do some work in those little cabins.
