Torres Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 first issue you're going to have with this is that the port cant go in the middle between the subs. you want to maintain a constant surface area of port, so with the box going smaller towards the bottom, the port does as well. it could almost act like a horn enclosure, tho a very poorly tuned horn and not sound very good the only way i'd see you being able to do this would be to put the port horizontally underneath the subs so it stays consistent. then the next issue that arises is port ratio and sub clearance of the port. lemme try to get this stupid dreamweaver program working without closing out on me for my homework cuz i gotta work on it BADLY then i'll play around sketchup for dimensions and fitments of things

What if you cut a slit between the subs, say 1" wide x 5" tall and had it extend say 7-9 inches into the box, How would this work? You could possible put the slit closer to the bottom? Or would like what you said a port along the bottom workout better? The front being 13.5" tall, its made for 10" subs... so there is 3.5" to work with.... MAybe a 1" port on the bottom extended all the way to about 1" away from the back of the box? Ive been thinking about this box alot... there has GOT to be a way to port it... Torres Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 one sec, repositioning the subs. it's a TIGHT TIGHT fit, but after i got the port in, i saw i had space to move the subs around some. and just fyi...smaller subs in a proper enclosure > bigger subs in a bad/mediocre one but...i think this will be ok. all the numbers seem to fit. not much port area...but that's ok. lemme finish putting these holes in right quick
Torres Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 alright. first the specs using those same dimensions you gave me, i get a port that's 2.25" high, 13" wide, and 19.25" long. this will give you 2.45 cubes of net volume, and tune the box to almost right on 36 hz. i know you want to tune to 30 hz, but that's not possible with this box. also, anything tuned under 34 ish hz is not very useful imo as most music plays in the high 30's and low 40's for rap, and even higher if you listen to rock. not much is played mid to low 30's. i'm tuned to 36-37 hz, and i still hit the lows, and sounds better overall on the other notes. but having less port area will help you hit the lows if that's what you like. so i say it'll sound just fine. onto the pics the subs are still close to the edge, but can be moved around a little still. notice the port is 16.25" here. the extra .75" on the baffle fills in to make it 17" long. and since the port bends, when measured down the middle, you get a tad extra length. in your case, you get the extra 2.25" to make the port 19.25" long. the physical port just needs to be shorter to acquire it like i said, it's a tight fit, and not much port area but i think it'll be fine and sound pretty good the way it is. EDIT: whoops...i forgot to show the height of the baffle. it's still 13.5", just doesnt show on the pics EDIT EDIT: i'd suggest using allthread for bracing. it's very strong, and very tiny and will take up next to no space in the box to help you stay as close to net volume/tuning as possible
