slim2fattycake
Now you got it.Poly Fill simply slows down the wave. Making it travel for a longer period of time, which simulates the effect of traveling a further distance. So basically, making the box react like a larger box. The reason why they say to spread the poly apart a little and not compact it is because the air will need to travel through the fibers and not just get stuck or dampened. fritosaregood
i dont see how slowing a wave down makes a box seem bigger. In a tline it makes it seem longer, but not a larger cross sectional area. Here is where i read about the heat part. http://www.caraudio-forum.com/forum/index....entry3308 Quote seller feedback: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=61719 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=68281 build log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=44800 Gf's build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/54346-kickergirls-camaro-new-box-pg-5/#entry753970
slim2fattycake
"Stuffing a box with polyfill makes it seem larger and it all relates to thermodynamics. When polyfill is added to an enclosure, it changes the behaviour of the airspring in the enclosure from "adiabatic" to "isothermal". The term "adiabatic" implies that there is no heat transfer occurring. An isothermal process occurs once the polyfill has been added. As the air passes through the polyfill, the fibers wiggle and cause some of the energy created by the airspring to be dissipated as heat. This heats the surrounding air molecules warmer, causing the air to become less dense. Being that sound passes easier through a denser medium, the speaker interacts with your enclosure as if it is larger than it actually is. The effective increase in enclosure size can be as much as 40%!" density = mass/volume. Since it slows down the wave, it takes longer to travel inside of the box. it takes makes it "appear" as if it(the sub) is in a larger volume and "tricks" it into reacting as such. Now in a T-Line, the wave travels along the lenght of the port/vent/line. The fill slows it down, making it take longer, though its the same lenght. Ive had a few drinks, ill figure out a better way to explain it sometime tonight. Lol. jp-kustomz
yea its to make it seem larger and deeper sound but it really in my opinion kinda ruins the reason for tunning a box Quote 95 Delta 88 10 inch fubar(2 MB Quart RWE-352 15" on way soon) 1500.1 crunch kenwood KDC-MP642U Jp Kustomz
kl0wn
yea its to make it seem larger and deeper sound but it really in my opinion kinda ruins the reason for tunning a box What if people are running a little low on extra space but still want a bigger sub? This helps them. Tuning a box is still important, not like you can have a box tuned to 63hz, do this, and plan on it being tuned at 32hz.
