meade916 Posted December 12, 2009 Report Share Posted December 12, 2009 as you guys know i am trying to get into more HD video's for youtube these days but i keep running into a snag, the video on my Sony T90 (720p) looks good in the daytime but lacks at night plus the sound is aweful (more then the OLDER non HD sony i have). So i have another cam and its a 1080 sony......sorta big though. Not OLDSCHOOL big, but newschool HD big (news crew style). I just got a firewire cord so i can actually get some video off of it and onto the computer. Still havent done it though - mainly because its so big i dont know how much im gonna use it anyway. So in the meantime someone on here posted a thread about a GoPro 1080 cam and although the vids THEY posted werent HD, i know the cam does HD - so i looked into it. Anyway, i said screw it, and bought it. Now i have a GoPro "naked" (no helmet mount or any of that stuff) on the way......should be here any day! I guess you guys will end up being the ultimate judge on whether or not the GoPro is anygood - they say they put a LOT of time into the sound portion of the cam (talked to a rep) but im not sure if it will be a match for 4 18's. It will probably still sound distorted because that is tough on any mic to pick up but i guess we will find out! The Sony is a cybershot, its a small cam, the kind i like - and i dont think you can hook up an external mic to that one. If you can, im all ears - anyway, regardless, 4 18's is harsh on even the best mics. There will be some distortion but the TYPE of distortion or how it deals with the bass is usually the problem. Some cams make the bass sound terrible while the mids and highs still come thru fairly clean. Others MUTE out when the bass hits and you hardly hear anything. Some just sound "weird" when the bass hits, like the newest one i have. Its like its distorted and all but also has a different sound that i just cant pinpoint. I dont like it. Ill probably keep it though since it is a nice camera - just maybe not the best for what im doing. Cause when a huge wave breaks it sounds like thunder and can be felt miles away.
