Voltage drop question for a friend....

I am trying to help a friend on the PT forums, he is seeing a voltage drop on a ~800 watt RMS setup in his PT. His sub amp is intermittently shutting off at high volume when it drops as low as 11.5v. (PTs are regulated to 13.6v factory).

How can he tell if it is an alternator vs a battery problem, assuming the amp is protecting itself from low voltage?

sounds like some loose wiring or a partially bad fuse....i would check the voltage at the battery and also at the amp
