79 cutty
I know with hydraulic set ups space is always an issue...so a lot of times it just ends up getting mounted to the box. Or better question I guess....problems due to it being mounted on the box. Quote Firm believer in letting my cars do my talking! You can't rush quality, it doesn't happen overnight. broncoslaps
im goin with a myth..have you ever set a can on your box while slappin? i know in my bronco the can doesn't move at all and my box vibrates slightly..set the can on the roof and thats a different story, it'll bounce off..i've always mounted my amps to the box to consolidate space and i've never had a problem.. and in a vehicle with big bass what isn't shaking? lol i couldn't think of one place that would vibrate less then the box..any rate thats my 2 cents.. btw, new to posting on the forum, been browsing for sometime..nice builds and lots of info..hope i can contribute..so i guess this is my hello! -sal
Boon
I have a VFL400.1 here that needs... hmm... $200 of parts? Because someone screwed it to their box. Vertical MOSFETs with spring clips, tiny vibrations and eventually a FET or 2 snap off - then the load is split between the other FETs and they cant handle it so they blow as well. A few blow to a short circuit state and then you hear a sound similar to popcorn, which is the casing of all the FETs pinging around the inside of the amp. Doesn't smell nice like popcorn though. It is NOT a myth. Some amps will die quickly, some will die slowly (slow enough that it'll never be an issue for you) but one way or another, screwing your amps to your box is bad for them. lance_98main
i know i have seen lots of high end installs on here where the amp rack is on the box. But i guess there really isn't an exact answer. Your absolutely right about the can, the only thing that makes it move in my blazer is the air from the port. The box should have no vibration. But it all comes down to rather you feel its safe or not, seems to be about 50/50 here. jl10w3s
granted i only have two 10's and 700 watts goin to them, i've had my amps mounted on the face of my box right by the subs(look at pic in sig) for a year now and haven't had any issues so for something like my setup it should be fine to mount them to it. my .02 Quote (2001 Dodge Durango R/T) 1- XS Power D2700 1-Alpine CDE-HD149BT (Head Unit) 1 pr.- Focal Polyglass 165v30 (Front Stage) 1 pr.- Hybrid Audio Technologies C61-2 (Rear Fill) 1-Kenwood Excelon XR-1S (Sub Amp) 1-Kenwood Excelon XR-4S (Mids-N-Highs Amp) 2- JL 10 W3v3-4 (Subs) -2.3 Cubes tuned to 32 hz 1-1/0 ga. & Big III in 1/0 140 @45 hz db drag legal (2008 Toyota Highlander Limited ---build in the works) 1- Kenwood DDX470 (Head Unit) 1 pr.- JL C3-650 (Front Stage) 1 pr.- JL C2-525 (Rear Fill, may upgrade to 6.5" C2 or C3 instead) 1- JL XD-400/4 (Mids-N-Highs Amp) 1- JL XD-600/1 (Sub Amp) 1- XS Power D3400 1- JL 10w3v3-2 (Sub) 1- JL 2 Ga.
