Would upgrading from a stock "105 amp" alternator to an Iraggi 200a be good enough to support 1.5k rms? I was thinking instead of getting a second bat or a cap that a new higher out put alternator would be better, since my alternator is starting to go out. It would be cheaper for me to do this because for a second bat it'd be about $200 + I need a new alt. With my current Alt, I bearly see any voltage drop, sometimes I get about a 1 volt drop but nothing really much more. But I'm thinking about getting a RF T1.5k instead of using my t1k. Would swapping out my old alt for this one be easy? Do I really need to do the big 3?

This is what I'm thinking about;

He has a section here as well. You could ask him any questions you might have.

If you plan on adding more power..your electrical is awlays the most important.

I thought I would get answers from "the people" first, then go see what "the man" says. I know that electrical is always most important, I'm just wondering if people think it would be OK to run a 200a alt with 1.5k rms instead of a 100a alt + bat or cap and 1.5k rms.

thanks

200 amp atl of course. :) + battery.

I would love to do that, but I'm on a budget, kinda. I need a new alt either way. Going to be about $300 for the 200a alt, and if I could get away with like a Kinetik 800 or something around $100 for a bat, I could probaly do that... But not really looking for $500 on an alt and bat... Or I could replace my stock alt with a stock alt for about $100 and go with a bigger battery, like a Kinetik 1400 or 1800 for around $200... totaling $300

spend the $300 on an alt, and buy some 1/0 for the "big 3". it will be enough to feed your amp's draw and your vehicles draw... so you shouldnt see much voltage drop.

replacing your battery is not needed, but it will certainly help you out a bit (higher charging voltage, larger capacity, etc)

Awesome, the response I was looking for. :) Thank you. What is a "bit?"

a "bit" for me was:

1. charging voltage rose .5 volts from 13.8 to 14.3

2. my voltage used to be stable for about 2 seconds and then would drop heavily into the 10s or 11s. making the battery switch improved it to remaining stable for 10 seconds or so (above 13) and then would never drop below 11.8

your system may see different results, but this is just what happened in my case.

edit**

the battery upgrade took place when i had a dc lvl 4 15" on a memphis power reference 1000.1 amp. i had my stock 70amp alt in the whole time.

Ok, thanks. I have never seen my voltage drop below 12.8, but that was with Heater on full blast, low beams, and fogs, and bumping while idleing.
