Does anyone know the proper way to piano finish a box?

i think that would look absolutely amazing!

texture and all? i've ued lots of primer, lots of gloss, and lots of clear coat to get a nice shine. but if you want that nice hard finish, use shellac after you paint over it with a gloss paint

pretty sure that's the stuff i used in middle school anyways :P put it over a piece of wood with a picture on it. it was thick, just poured it on there. or maybe visa versa, shellac then paint.

It wouldn't look too good on MDF, because it's got a pretty much flat texture compared to Oak or Pine

That's just really polished/varnished wood.

Piano finish is something altogether different, it's like a really high build lacquer paint. And it costs a freakin' bomb - I know a shop that damaged a piano finish set of speakers they had in stock and it cost them out the ass to get them repainted.

i think i'll give it a shot. someone told me you can get it pretty close with FG resin so i'll try that first.
