amplifier class

im looking for a 4-channel amp, and i was looking online and i found out most 4ch amp are AB class. And i was courius what that was so i google it and i found out that class AB amplifiers get hot and have high distortion.

obuisly there have to be some upsides running a AB amp since i could only find 4-channel amps that are class AB. So i would like your input on this, is overheating and distortion something i sould worry about when buying a class AB amp?

I wouldnt worry about over heating and distortion.

Class AB generally is better for full range and is most common in low power and 4ch amps.

Class D is more efficient but usually has higher distortion and lower frequency range and is mostly used for high powered Subwoofer amps.

i have an ab 4 ch thats been kickin for years. it does get a little warm in the summer tho. only shut off once cuz of heat tho and it was mid summer on a camping trip without the car running

ok, thanks for the help. don't think i have to worry about the overheating then the hottest summer ive experienced in norway was 77 degrees Fahrenheit

If you wanna know more about the Sq of an amp, look at its specs.

Pay attention to the S/N ratio (should be as high as possible, over 100 is good)

the frequency response (should be 20hz-20,000hz for full range)

And damping factor which is basically how well the amp controls the speaker.

And check out the amp's efficiency, the higher, the better, and the less heat.
