creyc
Alright this thing is actually (mostly) built but I've been too lazy/busy to put pics and a log up. I'll post what I started with and where I'm at now. Original plan is (2) 18s in my 2001 Blazer on a SAZ-3000D. I'm replacing two AA Havoc 15s in about as large of a box as I can fit below window line, so the 18s will be walled instead. I still want to retain my back seats for hauling **** around so it will be a second row wall, behind the c-pillar. Box plan is ported, around 12 cubes tuned to 34Hz. Goal is to play music and pound the streets. Not too concerned with numbers but a 50+ would be nice. Here's the start. A rough idea of the shape of the enclosure: First amp: Got the BLs in. Both amps here: 250A Mechman alternator: Now time to get to get going on the box. A few tools to start with. The dirty shop/garage of toys this is all going down at: Where it's all going: 2001 Chevy Blazer (2) SAZ-3000Ds (2) custom 18" Madmax subs in a second row wall Rockford 600-4 Pioneer PRS components Pioneer P800PRS deck
creyc
The plan is to build most of the structural frame out of steel, then mount MDF to it and seal everything. Hopefully this will increase strength while getting rid of a little of the weight of multiple sheets of MDF. Here's the plan for the frame: First time welding, I bought a Lincoln arc welder and went at it. Now for the top half: And then lightly tacked together: I later realized I couldn't get the frame in as one piece so I would have to do the final welds inside the car with a fire extinguisher handy. :\ 2001 Chevy Blazer (2) SAZ-3000Ds (2) custom 18" Madmax subs in a second row wall Rockford 600-4 Pioneer PRS components Pioneer P800PRS deck

creyc
And all together: Next it went into the blazer: And a double baffle made: I ran into some clearance issues and had to notch the wood to get the subs to fit. Then I fiberglassed over the notch to seal it back up. 2001 Chevy Blazer (2) SAZ-3000Ds (2) custom 18" Madmax subs in a second row wall Rockford 600-4 Pioneer PRS components Pioneer P800PRS deck
creyc
Quick test fit of the subs: And an idea for the amp rack: I put some power to the subs to get an impedance graph: I wasn't sure if I calculated my port right after all of this so I decided to tune lower temporarily by reducing port area from 200 inches to 100. The blue line is the box as shown here, tuned to about 36Hz. The red line is with a block in the port, cutting port area in half to lower tuning frequency to the high 20s. It sounded very boomy and muddy in this configuration so I went back to 36Hz. But this illustrates the effect of port area/tuning frequency on impedance. 2001 Chevy Blazer (2) SAZ-3000Ds (2) custom 18" Madmax subs in a second row wall Rockford 600-4 Pioneer PRS components Pioneer P800PRS deck
