Bass Knob

Okay, so we've all heard of bass knobs, the little knob that hooks into your amp and has the power light, a min and max, and a knob... pretty simple, but what EXACTLY does it do?

I think it just attenuates the gain or lowers the volume of the source input. Probably different for different amps, but I'm just guessing.

That depends if you are talking about a gain knob which adjusts the gain on the amp remotely or a bass volume knob which acts as a limiter turning down the volume of your bass (or anything else you're using it for).

Well the one I'm asking about I think it's hooked up with like a phone line cord, and it's for an MTX JH600.

Yeah you have bass boost knobs (that are on the amp), and remote bass knobs. If you're talking about remote bass knobs, they just control how much power the amp will output, depending on where you have it turned.

Let's say to get the right output numbers out of your amp you're gain has to be half, if you have the remote bass knob plugged in and turned all the way up, the amp will act how the gain knob (on the amp) is set. It does not over-ride the gain knob on the amp, it's just like a knob to control the output of the amp quickly.

So you're saying boosting a certain frequencies isn't bad? Every time you turn that knob, it is trying to make the amp work twice as hard (IIRC, somebody correct me if I am wrong here). And you are only boosting a certain frequency when you turn that knob (which is 45hz most of the time).

So you can go equal to or less than the gain is set.
