Tuning For Daily Driver?

if you mostly listen to rap that drops low then that's where I'd tune. 30-32Hz would be fine and should be louder on the lows then a box tuned higher that's using the SSF to keep from hurting the subs...

oh on the contrary. my 36 hz box hit just as low as my 30 hz box. but then again tuning isnt everything. also, set your SSF about 5 to 10 hz under tuning to be safe. doesnt have to be right at tuning. and ummm unless you somehow mount your speakers right in front of the port or in the port itself, you wont have to worry about them 'free airing' :01nocomment8so:

just to throw in another couple of things.

some of the rap songs may not be low as you think (http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=1753&st=0&start=0) so a tuning frequency of approx 36 - 38Hz should be good for a daily driver, with cabin gain aiding with the lower end

Well the last box i made i had a port that was too big for the sub and it liked to bottom out easily, but after rebuilding the port smaller it never did that.

Tuning low just gets you a flatter response. Tuning high gets you louder on a mic but wont sound as good. DD boxes are best between 30 and 35. if you are competeing you want to try to get close to your resonant freq.
