dual 15" nightshade box....again

Recommended Posts

DO the box as big as you can get it. My last set up was a level 4 15 in 4.5 cubes tuned to 28. That got lowwwwww. The only draw back is that your gonna have to watch how much power you throw to it. My dc bottomed out constantly when I was pushing it hard. Im building a box thatll be 9.5 cubes with 155 inches of port@ 31hz. If you wanna ground and pound, tune to 32 or lower.

well isnt bottom out due to, to big of a box? im powring my 2 15's with a sundown saz 3500.

well i took my set up out, and put back in my single 15" box with my NS, running at 2 ohms. its 3.5 cubes @ 32 hz with 50 sq inches of port, and i like it, so im thinking of just doubling the box for my duals, and maybe tune to 34 hz.

if you want a groundpounder don't tune it at 36hz, tune it at 30hz!!!!! you keep saying you want the lows, so don't tune above 34hz. i have always been fond of 32. its the sweets spot for what i like to hear.

it doesn't sound that great tuned that low as im to close to my subs, they are like 10" from my head, so tuning that low isnt going to help me to much, im going to tune to 34 hz. 32hz works, but i dont think it will make that much of a difference jumping up 2 hz, and it will help out on a bit higer notes and should still slam the lows.

You'll be fine if you tune to 36hz. Just because the forum boner is to tune your box to 32hz doesn't mean that's what you need to do too. I have 2 Nightshade 15's in my daily setup in 7.2 cubes with 6 4" precision ports that tune the box to 37hz. Now that I've added a pair of 3500d's over a pair of 2000d's I don't know the actual score that they will do no music, but with the 2000's they would do a 152 on music. They would still touch 150's on music at 30hz too. The thing is that I only have 75sqin of port though and it does help that they are flared ports.

I would go with the 7 cubes that you are wanting to and do some flared ports instead of a slot port. In that box you could do anywhere from 5-6 4" ports and it would slam. I can tell you from experience with the box similar to that it will get loud. I have no doubt what so ever that I can do a 151 on music with a single 3500 because I could do it before with a pair of 1500d's and a clamped 3400 watts.

i just dont have money for the aeros so im limited to slot ports.. my single 15 box right now with my nightshade in it does pretty much what i want it to do (not so hard hitting on the higher notes) is tuned to 32 hz, with 3.5 cube box, and 50 sq inches of port. so im figuring well if i like that, then double it, so 7 cubes, with 100 sq inches of port, and tune a few hz up to help out with higher notes, but still be able to slam the low notes, so 34 hz tuning. i have a box done up on the calc. but with the numbers the port isnt working out (if port is straight it wont fit as the depth will be to short, and if i bend it, then the port will be to long) im thinking of doing this box...

box height - 16

depth - 25

Length - 46.5

Port height - 7

width - 14.5

length - 21.25

net air space 7.19ft3. port area 101.50 in2. @33.92

keep in mind, once i had bracing the tuning will go up to 34 hz and box will come closer to 7 cubes.. but i dont know how to make that port work.... subs up, port up..

Aeros don't cost much money when made yourself out of a Sonotube... I say make either a single 8" or 10" aero yourself. Can make one cheaply by just simply using a good amount of resin and it makes the tube very stiff after hardening. Also can make it rock solid by using resin, glass, and then sum bondo + sanding it to be glass smooth.

im not good at that, ive also looked on the DIY flaring of PVC, still looks like you need practice to do that, and i dont want to waste a lot of PVC. slot ports are so much cheaper and easier. i wish i could try aeros.

ok after punching in the numbers for my single 15 box, it was a lot different then i thought it was, its actually 4.15 cubes @ 28 hz with 50 sq inches of port.

so im wondering if someone could see if the first dual box i made is even what i thought it was. it was a wedge style box:

box height 1 - 19

height 2 - 14

depth - 24.5

Length - 43

Port height - 5

width - 16

length - 26

Gross air space 8.28

net air space 6.09ft3. port area 80 in2. @32.55

Port A - 18.75" long

Port B - 2.25" long

and for my new one if someone could help me out with a sketch up and make sure the port is right and is going to work please (subs forward, port up in the middle (rectangle along back wall))

box height - 27

depth - 14.5

Length - 46.5

Port height - 6

width - 16

length - 26.25

net air space 6.68ft3. port area 96.00 in2. @32.19
