Wiring speakers to headunit.

When wiring a speakers to a headunit, everything is labeled right? Do you have to buy a vehicle specific wiring harness? Also do you run you own speaker wire or can you just use stock wiring?

I ran my speakers through the stock electrical with a harness adapter.

If I were you, I'd find a wiring diagram for your radio and go from there. That's what I did and it worked out well. Try to find some forum for your truck and use the search. I hope I helped a little.

I cut the stock plug off of my wiring harness and used a DMM to find out what all the leads were. It works fine if you don't plan on ever using the stock HU again.... but I ran my own ground for the HU.

and speaker wire.. well you can use stock but any upgrade at all is much better....

and when you use a vehicle specific harness it's not labled, no, but it's color coded..and there should be a booklet that comes with the adapter that tells you what the colors mean... and you can so the same thing with your HU manual.. it also will tell you what the colored wires from the back of the HU mean. most of the time they match up pretty well if you use a vehicle specific harness... but if you don't, they will certainly not match. for mine i wrote down what all the colored wires in the harness meant so i'd have it for future use.

i literally just explained this to you. the wires will be color coded. your head unit manual will tell you what each color means.

if you run your own wire, it's up to you to keep them labeled. usually speaker wire has one wire that is different in some way, like it has a stripe, or it's a different color. use that to keep track of your negative and positive. but it's up to you to label what wire is coming into the dash from what speaker in the car. usually i take electrical tape and a silver sharpie... wrap the tape around the wire and then back on itself... so it has a tab of tape that is stuck to itself. then I write FL, FR, RL, RR on the 4 leads, corresponding to the front left, front right, rear left and rear right.

i love how my stock wires say what they are, it made my last hu install last only like 5 minutes.
