What did Ed do, that caused the "ALL MIGHTY SMD WOOFER" to blow?? Just curious... I mean I love learning new shit, and granted I havent been in skool since 1998... I graduated HS in 91 fwiw...

The sub went up in 10 seconds...I talked to Trippi on the phone for about a hour and a half yesterday and went over all kinds of things. Beings that the amplifiers are put in the roof and the subs are firing..into the roof some of the solder joints on the rectifying section of the amp probably has broken loose. When one of these major manufacturers like Kicker, Rockford, JL, JBL etc. builds an amplifier and designs on they put it on a shaker table. It is designed to simulate around 3 million cycles of the amplifier being on the back of a pair of 12's box in a civic...not in the roof of Trippi's hummer.

The difference is hitting the amp with a pool noodle...and hitting it with a fricking jackhammer.

I'd put money on the amps shot DC voltage to the coils..and the reason they did was because they are being vibrated and banged around all over the place because the pressure has NO WHERE ELSE TO GO.

I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do.

I guess we'll all see his decision in the coming months. We'll get the truck where it should and needs to be.

Just a quick question, You say handle 20kW for car audio. Now do you mean for extended periods of time (ie; longer than a 3 second burp)? Or just a burp?

It's sad that all this hatred and animosity is aimed at this build. Sure some things aren't done the best way, but they weren't half-assed either. There were also like a dozen different people working on this thing, so don't blame Ed for some other persons mistakes.

When it boils down to it, it's not even done. It's not too late to fix things, and the only things I see that are issues are the way the battery racks are mounted (not Ed's fault), and that there might be loading/unloading issues with the box, as there are with most boxes of that design. 3 and 6 sub setups are VERY tricky when the port needs to be on the end.

Everything considered, I know Ed is way more than capable of solving every problem, but damn, let the guy have a break. I love this build, it's turning out amazing. You just need to take some pointers from Meade to learn how to deal with the haters.

Sunday was the first time I heard it since it was tuned, those mids and highs are even more killer then before. My woman said "it's like being at a concert". Sorry to hear about the sub. I saw what went into getting the box in, I can't imagine what it's gonna take to get it out. Unless Ed has a secret plan...

Been following the build since the start, told Trippi to do the amps on the roof because he was obviously crazy enough to do it. This ride is unforgettable. Congrats everyone that chipped in.

I gotta say, the recent criticism is very interesting. It has revealed many aspects of car audio/fabrication that I havn't even though about. I feel bad for wanting NDMstang65 and Ed to argue eachother's points since it reveals so many responsibilities that have to be taken on in a build like this. The Techniques and the knowledge that some of these people have are mindblowing. At the end of the day, HHR Ed built the Trippi Hummer, and that to me is alot of responsibility and takes alot of balls.

EXACTLY!!!!! I refuse to believe that there isn't room to wall 6 18's in an H2, especially when you have room to put them in a normal ported enclosure. It wouldn't have been a flat wall, but there's more than enough room to do a clamshell...not trying to be a monday morning quarterback, just making a statement.

Thanks to everybody who has chimed in...hopefully somebody picked up a tip or two from all that was said. Hopefully the 2500s aren't being hurt up there but it seems like they may be. We will find out soon.I did ask around to a few other people who have amps installed like me and they said that it did damage their amps too. One was Beast from the East..so I know if his weak system was enough to mess up his amps I might wanna reconsider things. lol. It would suck to lose that unbelievable box that Ed did..I would definitely have to find another use for it. But I'm sure he has more tricks up his sleeve. It's a shame that all of the talent that Ed and Nick have cant be combined to shut everything down. lol. Also, I don't think 6 18s can be walled in a hummer. Ty, who's on here, said he caught hell trying to do 6 15s. But then Mikey did do 8 15s in his but with a different design. Using 4 is always an option too but damn..lol. If I do end up doing another box it will be a design that will get the most out of the subs...again I'm not a numbers guy but can you imagine that nonsense if all 6 can be walled on all that power?

I had talked to Ed earlier about the amps...the biggest thing i had against mounting the amps up there was heat. with mounting the amps upside down the board is upside down, and the heatsink also upside down, meaning the heat will rise through the board (basically trapping all the heat in the amp) and that can lead to amp failure. the vibration thing is true as well... and like mustang said... these amps are tested for "normal" abuse... honestly, I saw the roof of your hummer, that thing is going insane. lol

The thing people have to understand is this. Ed built what TRIPPI asked for. This truck was built for more show than "go" so to speak. the reverse of that would be the Boswell's metro... built for "GO" and no show. haha (but it is freakin nastily loud... which is its intent). I hear all the time about the DDBEAST being a "burp" only car...which is not true... ask anyone on this forum that has actually sat in this car...while playing music... its not a burp car at all (at least with the current box). Some people are not about SPL numbers. thats fine. others are. some people are about trying to loosen their rectal cavity with 20hz chopped and screwed music at 150dB+ levels (but since the freq is so low it SOUNDS like 160)... again to each their own. If it's audio related I'm all for it anyway. This sport has been dying off for a few years now (since Alma Gates retired, the sport has not been the same...miss ya ma!) and any way to make it a growing sport and trend is a good thing.

ALSO...honestly, the batteries in trippi's hummer being exposed is a good thing. the batteries are often the unsung hero in any install... if you can showcase the batteries in a SAFE, and neat, clean way... GO FOR IT!

I've said this before, and I mean it whole heartedly... no offense to anyone who made their opinion known (your american right to freedom of speech), but remember the bottom line is this...

IF TRIPPI IS HAPPY THEN WE SHOULD BE HAPPY FOR HIM. It really sucks that everyone is shooting holes in the floor of trippi's boat.

I GUARANTEE you one thing... EVERYONE on here has something in their install that could be picked apart. EVERYONE. If you think that you are a god, or untouchable... you need to find another forum to visit...
