Need Help With Home Surround Sub

Recommended Posts

ok i have a sony 100w 8" sub on my home surround sound system. the 8" sony sub was fine when i use to run cerwin-vega E-312's for my fronts and cerwin-vega LS-8's for rears the E-312's were taking care of my bass needs  . but now i use cerwin-vega LS-8's for my front and rears on speakers stands and the sony sub doesnt give me the bass i need when watching movies and playing music. i was thinking of making my own sub by buying my own parts. ok my question is should i go with ported box or a sealed box? ok for amp im thinking of getting this http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.c...tnumber=300-805 and heres the box i have to choose from sealed http://cgi.ebay.com/10-SINGLE-SEALED-SUBWO...8QQcmdZViewItem and heres the ported box http://cgi.ebay.com/10-SINGLE-VENTED-SUBWO...8QQcmdZViewItem i would like to make my own box but dont have the tools to do it. for the sub im thinking either this http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PowerBass-S-10-Sub...1QQcmdZViewItem or http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Kicker-Comp-10-200...1QQcmdZViewItem im tring to spend less than $200.00 on this so tell me what setup you guys think will be best sealed or ported / powerbass or kicker?

sounds like a good idea but you might want to go with 15s depending on what type of music you listen too, i had a jl 10 w7 in my room and i switched to 2 kustom 15s in a studio cab still not enought bass lol but u might get what i mean that all together was 200 and all it needs to get good and loud is 300 wats which im just running off my reciever and eq, still what your planning on sounds like a good idea, i think the powerbass would be the better choice depending on the rout you pick

for Home theatre Bigger sub is the way to go...ported. Tuned fairly low. 8 is a bit small, i wouldnt go smaller than a 12.

save a bit more money and you can get an eD A2 powered sub..if you dont got any beef with eD.

just an FYI, DYI is extremely tough in especially HT environment. it can get pretty expensive more so than car audio.
