Ported vs Sealed

yea i wanted a specific answer and you guys told me about the rattle problem and how to fix i understand this wont fix the problem. the other question was just basic differences in sealed vs ported. and you said i was not properly powering my type r its rated 500 watts at 4 ohm.

do your back seats fold down if so I would turn them around an fire them forward and seal it off from the trunk that will greatly improve the sound if not a bandpass enclosure ported through the rear deck lid is another choice

we never said you werent properly powering it. tell me where we said that. we said that you had your tuning fucked up, which can in turn cause your amp to clip the shit out of the sub and that would be the main reason it would sound like crap

I said he wasnt, because if hes running 2 type rs on a amp that maybe puts out 400w thats not properly powering it LOL, he needs more power if he faces it forward for sure though

sealed: smaller box, wider and flatter response curve(in most cases, a well designed ported box with transfer functions and TS specs accounted for can produce boxes with wider and flatter in-car responses than sealed), quieter (but by how much, noone knows)

ported:larger box, generally a peakier response with a sharper low end roll off at a higher relative freq (usually 25-40hz), almost always louder than a sealed box.

there you go. thats kinda everything that separates them. that being said, i've seen a sealed box with 10s do 150's on music. i've also seen big ported boxes that couldnt break 140. IF YOU WANT TO BE QUIETER, TURN IT DOWN

I have one type r not two. And like i said im pretty sure the settings are fine unless opening the trunk and hearing that it sounds fine doesn't mean anything. It's rattles and ok i understand i have to fix that for it to sound better. K now i understand the it will probably be quieter but no one can really give you an estimate. I have heard people with shittier subs than mine with a sealed enclosure and the bass sounded nice so i was thinking to maybe switch over to a sealed

Ahh ok then im sorry, i read 2 for some reason.. But honestly man, go look at your trunk, and look at where the bass reflects off of and you will see why it rattles.. if you face it up, it rattles off the lid, face it back, its off the tail area.. the ONLY real way to stop rattling is to face it forward.. even with dynamat *ive tried, and tried* it has never worked for me, it helps.. but it doesnt stop it

ray i didn't want it to be quieter i just wanted it to be clearer and i wanted to know how much quieter it would be, but reading your response i understand that no one can really tell. I thought that maybe sealed meant alot quieter, but the clearness improves by a lot but i guess that really depends on how well its made and the equipment.

i've gone so far as to take the bumper off and dynomat it. now it clunks instead of rattles. it def helps, but there is only so much you can do.

sealed wont stop rattles.
