i just still dont know what you mean by clearer...i've heard everything from tlined 8's to ported 18's to sealed up sq subs and none was any "clearer" than the other, the only differences i could ever hear are output and frequency response differences.

Bass is deeper in ported. It would probably make the car rattle more since its usually deeper and louder. But if you build a nice sealed enclosure it will still rattle the car. Sealed enclosures hit the bass a little higher, and more punchy. Personally I think ported sounds cleaner since, if ported correctly, it will hit the deep bass without a problem, while sealed is, like I said, punchy. But really, sealed or ported, the car is gonna rattle if you turn it up. The subwoofer creates pressure making the car vibrate making that annoying flexing sound. I'd recommend making time to get some sound deadener in your car, but sealed should be less of a car flexer.

That would be stupid! Dude, Dynamat is meant to stick onto the panels to stop the vibration, create a dampening on the panels in the car to stop flexing. If it didn't stick on, then what else? Bolt on? It needs to have a solid contact with the panel. And if it was removable how would you know if its gonna fall of? Lol.

the punchiest bass i ever heard was playing eminem-same song and dance on my 3 18's in a huge box with well over 200sqin of port. close second was the same song on 18in btls, again in a huge ported box. on a frequency response chart, sealed boxes actually have a stronger low end...ALWAYS. Even if you tune to 22hz, a sealed box will outperform it at 10hz. sealed boxes dont unload an allow you to play as low as you want. if anything, sealed may make your car flex more, i mean, look at randy assman's astros. IIRC he's a fan of obscene sealed setups.

deaden the car or turn it down. changing to a sealed box, i guarantee, will not stop the rattles at all.

This thread is pretty silly, and filled with some seriously ass-backward thinking on the OP's behalf. First, what do you think is CAUSING the rattles? I'll give you a hint it starts with "S" and rhymes with yes-pee-ell.

So if it rattles because the bass is too loud, you're asking if you can switch to a (generally) quieter enclosure type and solve the rattle problem? Why not just turn the volume knob down, like Ray suggested?

The real answer here is sound deadening and fixing the things which rattle, but you admitted you don't want to invest that much work so your options are quite limited!

a cheap alternative to dynamat and all the other overpriced deadeners, is called peel-n-seal. Its available at Lowes and some home depots might have it. It's used for roofing, just clean the bottom side of your deck lid, I like to use a rag with a little bit of paint thinner/reducer.

No, the thinner will not make your paint come off btw...just get it clean and let it dry, then start putting on the deadener of your choice. The one I named will be more then enough to stop your trunk, and its under $15 for a nice sized roll.

Despite what will be said about it "falling off" or "stinking" none of that is true. I have it it for a few years, in both freezing and 100+ deg summers. Not a single problem and I never smelled it once, my new sub box had more of an odor because of the fresh cut wood... Whatever deadener you use, just prep it well and you will be fine.
