Which reel is ment for river fishing. Open or Closed face reels. Me and my friends have a bet and I say its closed but they swear by open. So whats your guys input?

I only use open reels.

Open face without a doubt. Reason being: when you're fishing a river you are looking for brush, stumps, holes, etc. where fish bed and a open face reel allows you to be a lot more accurate and you have better control.

Closed.... Spinning reels are only for girls and little kids who can't handle a baitcaster.

But seriously, I only use spinning reels on very light tackle situations. In river fishing you need the cranking power of a baitcaster.

Now, if when you say closed face you mean like a Zebco 202, then I'm out of this conversation..

Whats a good closed face river reel? For pretty cheap. I only have like 20 bucks lol

open face spinnin reel, used a closed face when i was like 2 to learn on, then my balls dropped and moved to open face for controlability (sp?) only use baitcasters on the lake, only place i need them for casting far and cranking power
