Bobby32 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Dunno how many amps a stock 2004 dodge ram 1500 alt puts out. But when im at idle and have low heavy bass cranked, I drop into the 12v mark pretty quick. I want to be able to maintain at least in the solid 13v mark. I have big 3 done, stock underhood battery, and 134ah c&d in the back, and run power run of 1/0 to the back. Amp is a db drive pt 2000.1 @ 1 ohm, apparently they say its pretty underrated so I don't know what its actually doing. Should I get a new under hood battery or a new alternator?
Robert8252 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Better battery to start. At idle that's where you get most of your power from. Higher alts only give more at higher RPM for the most part. If you have a 130 amp alt a 300amp alt is actually about the same output at idle. Guest Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 heres a free solution. dont beat on idle. i never do and my voltage never drops past 14v on a 70amp alt. edit: your voltage will keep dropping to 12v no matter how many batteries you have. get a new alt IF YOU WANT (not saying you should since you should just stop beating on idle) and that will fix your problems. batteries cant send out 14v by themselves.
