Not a stupid question at all. The 14V batteries have to be charged at a higher voltage than a regular 12V alternator can supply. You can either get an alternator with an external regulator or use the VCM (for those applications that the VCM will work with) to charge around 16.8V. Most people have been able to run their stock electrical on the 14V system, but I have had a customer that needed to add in a step down module for his 12V stock electrical system. It is really vehicle specific and you would want to check and make sure it will work on your vehicle. It seems that the Fords are effected by the higher voltage more than the other models so far.

Lmao... and it would be just my luck i got a Ford... haha..

he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:
