Mystery smoke

Ok, just had a interesting series of events and i'm needing help finding answers. (puts flame suit on) I work aat bestbuy as a salesman. We recently got all of our new kicker products in stock. I displayed a 750.1 and a the prefab kicker comp 12 enclosure. The enclosure is pre-wired to a 2ohm load. i have been demoing the setup for a few days and pushing the subs very very hard. today i walked into the department and smelled an electrical smell. long story short, amp was smoking like crazy and overloading our display board. i hit the kill switch and let the amp cool off. once i opened it up, the only visible damage was at the feet of the MOSFETS. it wasnt much, just a slight char mark and a foot was supper thin from being melted.

My main question is, how can a amp that is just sitting, maybe playing about 50-100 watts (volume was down on the deck), suddenly start smoking and get so hot? my other problem is, from the amount of smoke i saw, there must be other damage to the board. I'm not worried about it since bestbuy jusr writes it off, but i am really bothered that this happened. not a good sign that we had the amp for 2 days and we fried the first one.

any help would be appreciated (besides bestbuy comments).

P.S. this amp took the same spot as a rockford 500-1 that had been there for over a year and no problems. same wires and everything.

must have been bad from tha get go. fosgate says it all 2 years no probs do they stay on all day? could be the power supply suppying the display .starved for power? or loose ground some were

there are 3 1000 watt supplies running each display. one for decks, one for 4chans and one for sub amps. could have been voltage issues, but it would have to have been pretty bad or else the kicker protect circuit really sucks. and i completely agree with the fosgate comment. i accidently bridged a 500-2 to 1 ohms and it ran a lil warm but put out solid power for a few months til a customer got gain happy.

I turned the gains up once and they kicked me and my brother out and we ere like you guys just let out 300$ Even though we werent going to buy anything..

i still never understood why store distplays dont run batteries inline of the power supplys like my buddy had his setup running

like a 50 or so amp power supply wit a deep cycle battery inline to the distplay

were can someone get a good sized power supply cheap, i got a couple decks that i want to make a distplay for in my room

i want some speaker selectors like yall got and someway to run em threw a 4ch too, i unno how to wire stuff like that and it work right

but could be someone got gain happy or tryed to put diff subs on same amp

at circuit city each amp was wired to run all subs, but only the ones turned on, and i was looking at something and hit the wrong button and dropped a kicker 750 down to 1ohm with 2 mtx's and it started popping so i changed it real quick back to the kicker cvr's and it had no problem, even with the L5's it was pushing so i unno

i unno how some companys can warrenty stuff in a sound room due to hella noobs wanting to mess wit shit, i kno i look at stuff and move gains around a lil bit but i just do it to see what the sound diff is and put it back the way it was
