How Would I Go About Adding Ram To My Laptop?

Recommended Posts

I have an HP pavilion dv1000, and im pretty sure its only got 256 megs of ram. I want to either upgrade it or add another stick if possible...I've done this and some other work to desktops, but I've never opened up a laptop before. Is this pretty straightfoward? And can anyone tell me what kind of ram I have in this thing? I think i recall that theyre are two types although I forget the names. I want to get at least to 512 if not 1024 if it can fit. Thanks guys.

A couple links to some box builds:

Tahoe Box 1, Tahoe Box 2, Nissan Titan, VW GTI,

Mini-Bump, Hummer H2, Ford F-150

My own car builds (current setup --- under construction):

Overall Thread, Kickpods, Dash, Back Doors

Subwoofer Wall

the ram you have should be DDR266/PC2100, so go buy a stick of 512, there should be 2 slots, 1 open for ram. if you are playing internet games, take your 256 out and get 2 gigs of ram since it can hold 2gb max. You have plenty of options on how much ram you can fit in there.

Flip the laptop over so the bottom is facing up, and there should be like 4 or 5 little plates that are screwed down, at least on my hp it says RAM and has a picture on the plate that the ram is under, really easy to install, takes like 5 min max.

Damn Thiefs
