UnderLoK Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 The only thing I can think of is that the amp is hosed (no protect light and it does work however)... I have 2 XXX 4ks both on the same power and ground, but one of the 4k's shocked the hell out of me this morning (just finishing up my build) so I hooked up a volt meter and there is massive amounts of current running through it. According to the meter 90 volts DC (not sure if amps do AC, but if they do make that 200 volts). Sorry I don't really know how amps work in detail, but that is where I'm heading now to find out. Anyone have any ideas? Current is running through the case itself and the screws which mount the case to the rails and heat-sink. Any guesses anyone might have would be appreciated. I have a call into SS but god only knows how long it will take to get a response. Forevrbumpn Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 That sounds like a fun way to wake up I bet the manufacturer didnt leave enough space between the PCB back side, and the casing, check that area out, see if anything is arcing I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

Half asleep adjusting the gain and BAMO (as juicy as a wall socket). My guess was that something had broken loose and was grounding out, but I wasn't going to pop it open until I got some more info (plus I have to dig it out). Shit like this happening when you are a hair away from being done is so forking anoying... Thanks again! dohckiller808 Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 whats under your amp? rf amps used to tweek out when we mounted them on back seats where it was uneven. when we torqued down it twisted the case and grounded something that made it arch to amps next to it. fixed it with a board below it.

Maybe I'll try jossling it around and see. It's mounted to a board in an amp rack that sits on my floor.
