Help! Trying to make tge best out of small system

Alright, this is my first topic on here so hopefully all will go well :-)

currently, I'm rolling in a '98 ford escort wagon; I know, it's Bitchin' :D

I currently also have a single 12" kicker comp 4 ohms rated 50-150w rms, (with 300w peak I'm pretty sure.)

It's hooked up with 8 gauge power wire to an olddddd assss Sony xm 502x amp from 1998, rated at 50w x2 and 130w rms x1 bridged mono.

I also have a pos aiwa hu, not sure which model, but it has an aux imput so it gets the job done for now.

Alright, I want to make it louder/deeper/stronger without going broke. Yes, I know you get what you pay for, but I think either way I go, it won't be too expensive.

Tgeres only one other thing, I run the sub in a sealed shallow mount truck box behind the rear passenger seats -this allows me to move the box/sub right behind tge drivers seat on the floor when I load up all my camping gear as I love camping and I race my bike as well. So it has to be a shallow mount sub. I know I could do so much better with a regular box and sub, but it is what it is, and practicality is a big issue.

So I originally was going to just upgrade tge amp. I have an mtx thunder 3401 that a buddy gave to me blown, ghat would only cost 65 plus one way shipping for mtx to fix. There's also a guy on here selling a crunch p 500.2 for 40 bucks. Which would be better? Would that make a nice diffrence, or would I have to upgrade my sub to hear the diffrence.

I was looking into shallow mount subs and it seems that the Pioneer TS-SW3041D is tge best choice for a shallow mount sub. Would that be decent for the box I have? And say I did get that, how big if an amp would you reccomend, it's rated 300w rms and a 1400w peak I'm pretty sure. Would I have to upgrade my power wire?

I guess what I really want to know is; will I gain anything noticibly upgrading my amp, or do I need to get a diffrent sub that can handle more power to really gain anything?

Thanks so much everyone, the wealth of knowlege on here is absolutley amazing.

Thanks again,

Chris

Hey man, In your wagon I would definitely get a new amp and fix the box, possibly get another kicker, but I would definitely recommend making a new ported box, make it sound alot more slammin. If you do get the RF, maybe grab another kicker sub, and make a box that fits right accross your back seats.

In my hatch, I made a box that filled the boot, but left all the seats as I could stick my DJ bike across the car diagonally if I reclined the front seat and took ff front wheels. I culd even fit my DJ and XC bike in. But when it came to the downhill bike i Had to take both wheels off...

What bike you have? :P

Thanks for the reply bro! Now I'm pretty positive I'm building a potted box. I'm going to try making it pretty thin so when I lay the seats down I can slide the box right behind the driver and passenger seats. I have a roof rack on it so the bike goes on top but I currently gave a salsa moto rapido that I built up with full xo, spinergy wheels, rock shox Reba team fork with remote lock out, fsa carbon crank, fsa carbon bars, kmc x9sl chain, selle italia flite saddle, chris king headset and bottom bracket, thomson seatpost, salsa lip lock, kcnc titanium skewers and dérailleur pulleys, bontrager race x lite stem, ergon carbon grips, look quartz carbon pedals, avid elixir cr brakes, and alligator I-link cable housing with Teflon cables.

My road bikes nothing too fancy, an eBay frame built up with mavic aksium wheelset, carbon fork, bontrager race x lite bits, specialized s-works saddle, and a full ultegra sl grouppo.

Biking's my passion :-)

but I sure do love a good beat :-D

but the box just has to be practical :-D

what about your bikes, what do you ride?
