lunchbox.inc Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 ok, so... been on SMD for a while, never really posted very much, but i figure it's about time i throw something up... i've got a fairly hefty build log on an aussie forum Mobile Electronics Australia, so most of this will be copy/pasta from there... with the boring stuff cut out of course!! lol tho i'm not entirely sure how to upload pics and such... guess i'll host them else where till i can figure it out... lol well here's my ride, '84 toyota corona wagon, nice fairly clean car i used to run a pair of kicker CVR15"s, just in their prefab boxes off 1500rms... but wasn't a fan of the higher tuning, and didn't want to mess around too much on gear i wasn't the biggest fan of... i mean their good, and running hard in my mates wagon, they pull an easy 142db @ 50hz, but i needed lower... simple really, so i went out and bought a pair of earthquake DBXI15"s... i've always been a fan of the huge high roll surrounds, add to that VERY few people use them out here, and i figure i was onto a winner... also built a box for them, 6.5cf internal, tuned at 28hz i like my lows, but i'm in the middle of building a bigger box tuned around the same, but hoping for a bit more efficiancy from going bigger, should be around 7.9cf internat after displacement and bracing/port etc... but here's the set up atm running off a "nothing special" clarion vrx486 dvd h/u as for amps, i'm running 4x Option Audio oax1502 mono blocks, 1500rms @ 1ohm each, strappable to 3kw @ 2ohm... currently only running 2 of the amps, the earthquakes are single 4ohm coils wired down to 2ohm... i've got another set up which uses all 4 amps, but i'll go into that another time... as it's not quite finished 100% as of yet... but here's another pic of how the amp rack/enclosure sits... as you can see the rear seats are removed, and i've got a pole bracing the roof, it's gets a tad bit of roof flex you see, i'll post a video at the end... and i've got an 18mm false floor in there so everythings pretty sturdy... well thats it so far... would love some feedback from you guys, you sure have some crazy builds over there!! oh and that video i mentioned...

lunchbox.inc Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 WELL... where to start...? this build went thru SO many stages further than this, and at the time this thread didn't really seem to strike a cord with anyone, so i kind of let it fall away into the abyss... BUT unfortunately this build has gone the way of many others, and is no longer around, but i WILL share some pics of it's adventures with different installs and such... so... after the 2 earthquake DBXI 15"s, i decided i needed MOAR!!! so i built a 20cf sealed box for 4x Mach5 IXL18"s... unfortunately it didn't work quite as planned with a damaged woofer an not being able to get a replacement, i pulled 2 out, and whacked some ports in there... that went REALLY well, got some very decent flex and the scores were "reasonable, with around 146's under 30hz, it was a while ago now so my memory isn't great, but i believe it peaked around 27hz...? the numbers REALLY don't show exactly how it sounded, quality wise it's still one of the best sounding "loud" setups i've heard to date, and the termlab numbers just didn't do it justice... not a great video, but it gives you an idea... so that setup was great, but just no loud enough, SO i then replaced it with 4x Cadence Beastmaster 15" (which later saw use in my charade groundpounder in my sig) with those powered off a single USaudio Bonecrusher and 150ah batt in the back... this setup, tho it didn't sound as great to the ear, was significantly louder, and far more impressive to watch... so... the boxes... the amp and aprile view to show how big the boxes were... this build did a best of 149.1db @30hz 'legal" and a pb of 152 with the mic in the legal position, drivers door open... but more than just being loud, it moved panels, ALOT, when i say alot i mean seriously... this was a regular occurrence to try and keep the car from flexing at comps.... lol and another couple of vids to show the flex.... not that the camera even came close to capturing it, but it gives you an idea... and ope you guys enjoy!! this is one car i seriously miss...
