Im having weird electrical problems HELP.

Recommended Posts

So long story short I was having an amp removed and a new one installed. I went from a baby belle to a big belle. I asked the shop to do the big 3 while they had the car. The install guy told me that the big 3 was a joke and that doing that to my 01 explorer would most likely mess with my cars ability to charge my batt. I know the guy is full of it so I told him to just humor me and do it. I was having some issues with dimming lights and alt whine (caused buy a bad ground the shop did). So he did the big 3 and alt noise and dimming is gone system sounded fine. I drove home from the shop (bumping and happy about it) about 15 miles from shop to my house parked the car it sat for maybe two hours and then I drove to the store. On the way to the store when the bass would hit the amp seemed to be dropping off from alot of bass to none. When I was pulling into the parking lot I had the stereo and ac on and started to roll up the window and my car just died. I tried to start it again and nothing car didn't even try to turn over nothing just dead. I went into the store for about 10 mins came out and tried to start the car and it started right up. I checked the bat when I got home and It was around 10.19 put it on a trickle and after a couple hours it was up to 12.23. Any ideas on what could be happening? I was thinking that the upgrade was getting more power to the amp then before and it is just to much for my elec system. I have a stock 130 alt and a decent starter bat and no bat in the back. I am running the belle at 1ohm to 2 12"m3s and 6.5 RE mids and tweets at 4 ohms bridged from 4 to 2 channels. Help a noob out I looked through the electrical threads well about 90 out of 100+ and could not find anything. 80 :pardon: I am not sure what to do batt seems to take a charge from the trickle charger I am charging it overnight and will test it in the morning.

Thanks

Never trust a shop to do the dirty work. Especially one who tells you the Big 3 is a joke. Make sure he did the Big 3 right and replace your battery because it's most likely shot. It's probably something he did.

EDIT: Unless miraculously your alt went bad right after he worked on it.

Need an install? Hit me up.

check if the alt cable is tightened.

doing big 3 will allow your amp to draw more power but youl have to be drawing more power constantly than your alt pushes. i doubt your doing that on music.

other than that maybe your alt took a shit.

Yeah I was gonna got to get alt tested in the morning. I will check the bolt as well thanks. I hope that its something that simple. It never is though!

funny that you say that cause thats what I was thinking too. Exactly what he said would happen is happening and adding the big 3 would not cause this and all he did was add the big 3 and adjust the gains today the amp swap was last week and he did a :bull: job when he did that. little things like not removing the paint where the ground was. This suxx!

Any Ideas what to do next? The batt was on a charger all night and still this morning tested it with VOM last night and it was at 10.20 and this morning its at 12.9 and still charging at 6 amps. The readings last night were done with the charger still connected (I wasn't thinking clearly still pissed off). So the reading this morning is a better reading cause its not reading any power from the charger. Im off to have alt and batt tested hope that everything is fine and that the guy just drained that batt.

the battery could be internally shorted causing a slow drain i.e. old etc and check out under the hood how this shop did the big 3 on your truck they could have messed something up first check if there is a 1/0 cable going from batt negative to the chassis and a batt negative to the engine and a batt positive to the alternator positive with a fuse and also check if they sanded down the ground points to bare metal or the grounds wont make good contact hope this helps
