I know you have the pair of HF-1000.1's and the single NS sub. Did you have one running to each coil? or did you strapped them? You also said in your vid that they are D1 coils? JZeFF Posted July 5, 2010 Author Report Posted July 5, 2010 Bill, you have been nothing but helpful and reliable since i started dealing with you... I am just as sorry as you are that i am having these problems, i spent so much time/money on everything to make sure i was doing it the correct way... And i was unbelievably excited that everything was finally coming together... Now i am unbelievably disappointed... The NS is a Dual 1, i had the amps strapped with the sub in series so it was at 2 ohms... Like you recommended to me in a previous email The amps have direct power/ground wires run directly to/from the battery with KNU 0 gauge... The positive lines each have a 150amp fuse, like you recommended... The radio is an alpine 9887, the RCA cables all run through a 7 channel Clarion EQ. The amp that fried was the Master amp... I had the gain on the amp at less than half, i had the remote knob turned down to less than half... There was no bass settings on the Radio because i use the "bass level" knob on the EQ, which was never turned up more than half way EQ settings were turned to off on both amps because i was letting the EQ handle it.... And the slave amp WAS set to slave... The amps were not screwed to the box, so vibration wasnt an issue. Not to mention that i didnt even have the volume up at all... I got everything in the car and did some VERY minor listeing, i did not have the settings (HPF/LPF) on my 4125 all adjusted correctly, so i did not want to turn it up until i had all of those settings correct... The most i ever turned the volume up was 1/4 of the way... I wanted to go see the fireworks with my girl because she is at my house for the weekend, jumped in the car, drove to the park (10 minute drive) with the volume barely at a hearing level so that me and her could actually talk to each other... Got to the park, shut off my car, realized i wasnt even close to being in the middle of the parking spot... Restarted the car and all i heard was a crackling noise.. and i saw smoke coming into the cabin of my car from the trunk... I just really dont understand why it would go up in smoke when literally nothing had changed from the previous 5/6 times that i started my car earlier in the day... Nothing was ever abused, nothing was installed incorrectly... Im also baffled as to how none of the internal fuses were blown... my inline 150amp fuse was fine as well... I realize today is the Holiday, feel free to wait till tomorrow to respond. thehoe92 Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 only thing I can see wrong with what you did is letting the EQ do the work you can clip your signal VERY easily with that EQ I have the same one and believe me I've done it what does the wiring on your sub look like? I don't want to second guess you but maybe it was strapped at .5 instead of 2? sorry about your luck bro I know what you are going through but don't let this tiny hurdle get in your way of enjoying car audio if nothing was your fault I'm sure the warranty will cover it and you'll be back and bumpin in no time hell you still have an amp wire it to 2 ohms and have a little bump Wouldnt be thehoe92 without teh purple

JZeFF Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 Wellll, alrightyyyyyy.... Might as well keep myself excited with updates and questions. Bill took care of me with my problem, just like he has with every other small issue i have had. I decided to set my HPF's on my 4125 today.... kinda confusing... I understand exactly how its supposed to work, its just not working... lol. The LPF switch on my Equalizer has 2 options, 60Hz, and 90Hz... I think the way it works is anything below that level is directed to the subs and not the other speakers... I currently have that switch set to 90. Im thinking i should have it set to 60hz? Channel's 1/2 on my 4125 are powering my front RF power 6.5" components... i wanted to set the HPF to around 80Hz... Channel's 3/4 on my 4125 are powering my rear Kappa perfect 6x9's... i wanted to set the HPF to around 60hz... My problem: My test song was Walk With A Waddle by Gorilla Zoe... On the low bass notes... the 6x9's and the 6.5"'s still play the low note... The only way i could get rid of the low note was to turn the HPF's on the amp up to like 150hz... Just doesn't make any sense to me... The "defeat" setting on my HU is turned to "on", so no settings on the HU have any effect on EQ settings or Crossover settings. I dont have to work till noon tomorrow, so im thinking if i feel like it i may go out and take a bunch of pics of my wiring/box/amps/etc... Just so that i have some more detailed pics of the install. And if im really feelin it, i may hook the good amp up at 2 ohms... just so that i can actually have SOME beat... lol. thehoe92 Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 LPF is exactly what you described I would turn the Defeat off on your Alpine and set the HPF on the deck to 80hz set the bass engine to 60hz with a 4 band width and I have the treble on mine set to 12.5khz I have my EQ set to 60hz just because I don't think subs should be playing much higher than that, just doesn't sound right to me but then again thats just personal preference Wouldnt be thehoe92 without teh purple

The signal that the EQ receives needs to be a full range signal... So if I were to set the HPF on the headunit I would not get any bass output to the subs... Am I wrong? JZeFF Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 Alright, so i never got to taking pictures/videos the other day... stuff came up. Weather permitting i will do it tomorrow. Thing moves a decent amount of air considering its only running one 1000.1 at 2ohms. Bill said he would be replacing the other blown amp, im just still waiting for him to email me back some more information about the replacement. I am still having trouble tuning... I am missing the whole range of frequencies from like 60hz~150Hz... When i set the HPF's to ~70hz on the 4125 the low 30hz frequencies still pass through to my 6x9's and door speakers... The only way to get rid of the lows in the door speakers was to turn the HPF's up to like 150hz... I think i may just get rid of the Clarion EQ and use the settings on my 9887... Any thoughts? I had engine noise before from my 4125, now i dont... Oh well... i will probably unhook the EQ and see what happens... I still dont understand why my amps HPF settings are letting low frequencies through.... Any clue?
