voltage question

i hooked up my ma audio hk4000d to my existing system to test it out.the voltage meter on the amp with the car off read about 12.8. with the car on it registered about 13.9. i didnt play the amp too long with the car off but it didnt drop past 12.2 while i did, the amp performed fine. i drove around pumping pretty hard(enough to give me a headache) and the amp never shut down or got hot, course i know i am not getting near what this amp can do but it was enough for me. the electrical setup consists of a 80 or 100 amp alt not sure which, 0ga everywhere, 1000cca starter bat, kinetik 2000 in the back. i played with no lights dimming or even flickering. i have read posts sayiing that once you do the electrical upgrades that i have done they get 14+ volts what am i doin wrong? also i have read these amps shut down at under 13v mine didnt miss a beat how is this possible?

second part i have the usamps 400 hooked up on the same electrical and run it daily pretty hard and none of my lights dim the bass is hard but i was messing with the settings and noticed the ON light for the amp was flickering instead. i have never noticed this before but now i am worried i am damaging my precious amp, am i panicking for nothing and what if anything should be done?

oh and i am running 2 fi ssd 12's @2ohm, for both us amp and hk4000d if that helps.

In regard to the question about 14+ volts, my stock alternator has the big 3 done and I rarely get above 14.1. Its just the voltage regulator keeping it there. Doing the big 3 helps eliminate resistance, therefore increasing voltage. Sometimes, though, even after all that's been done, the voltage regulator will be there to stop it from being any higher.

At least that's my thought on it. Makes sense to me.

if you mean its fairly high num of volts, i agree it shouldn't go into protection. i was just repeating what i have read on other posts about this amp as far as people having it shut down. when i ran it at 13.8 - 12.6 it didnt shut off on me. but i also dont play my music like i wanna go deaf, or have too many woofers running off some stupid ohm load and im very careful with my gains. and i went back and read some of the posts and it shut down at or under 12v
