Pretty sure the x994 is almost identical besides more luxury options such as color changing display and buttons. I didnt look but think the specs are similar. I went with the Kenwood since I've always liked them and haven't personally used Alpine but once. The 9886 is discontinued so if you want it pay up for it because you won't get your hands a new one in the future. MP3 or most files can't compare to CD quality. Some can but on A very high average the quality is never the same. To some that might not matter and honestly a lot won't hear the difference or change in speaker performance. But it's not worth the loss for bells and whistles.
