Removable voice coils

Does anyone have experience with these? Is there a downside to having removable voice coils? They seem like an awesome design..... I don't know why I haven't seen it before.

I have never heard of it. But the linear capabilities of that cone looks like SHIT to me. Thats just like a 6x9. But with more magnet.

that is actually a very good woofer. great sound great volume.

i kinda like the removable VC idea. easier to replace that then the whole cone surround and spider assembly

the oval shape just seems to be too much of a gimmick on that

as far as the removeable VC - I'd take an educated guess that it adds to the weight of the moving assembly and even so isn't quite as strong as a regular triple joint when pushed to the limits and beyond.... so you loose efficiency and get a more expensive sub that gets outperformed by something at half the price or something...Not saying anything bad about the boston there, most likely a decent sub for a mild daily system and is likely quite popular with those fond of the brand

another point - your not gonna be burnging up coils often unless your amp is clipping to all hell 'cause you set the gain wrong\all up on boost\listen to clipped tracks non stop.... or bottoming the sub out playing like 15hz+ under tunning
