on my deck the bass boost is my sub level and has a seprate cross over settings. owners manual says to use the the boost to contral the bass out put thats y i asked

Hmm...well bass boost usually implies boosting the bass at a certain frequency (like 45 hz). Sub level is just an adjustment that lowers the voltage that the HU outputs through the RCAs.

So, if by bass boost you actually mean its the subwoofer out level, then yes, you want it set high. The higher the voltage output from your HU, the lower you can set your gain on the amp. If it's an actual bass boost you don't want to use it because it will introduce clipping.

For example, my Pioneer has a sub level, and also has a bass level, which is a bass boost. I have that all the way down.

You also want to turn "Loud" off.
