I got 2 12" JBL GTO 1200W series subs in a closed box...bought it from my friends dad for $150 plus an Alpine MRP-350 amp. I know that amp can power it but its really weak. I was curious what amp would be just enough power to make these things bang and what wires I should use. Thanks!

how are the subs wired?

im trying to remember..but i think the subs were both single 4ohm and dual 4ohm....are both subs exactly the same? wiring could be the issue. some guy had no idea what he was doing and had wired his subs for a final load of 4 ohms. he thought he was cool for trying to bridge channels, but was really only pushing 75 watts per sub.

ok the subs are rated at 350 watts rms since you have a pair you need 750 watts , so a rf 1000 will do, or a alpine mrp 1000 so between 750 to 1000 watts will do the amp you have will push one of the subs..and it also depends on how you have them wired too but that amp is capable of only doing 2 ohm load, so you need a 1 ohm stable

hmm, how about we wait till OP returns with what coils the woofers have

edit: JBL's site says the GTO 12's are available in single 4 and dual 4 ohm configurations

but then that takes all the fun out of guessing and just blindly choosing an amp and throwing out random facts.
