iceman1575 Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Okay, a rundown of my gear is two Alpine Type S 12's DVC 2 ohm in a custom built box about 36" wide x 14" tall x 18" deep (approx) ported, a set of Kicker CVR 12's in a ported box from Kicker, and an Alpine MRP-M650 amplifier. Each set of subs is wired series-parallel to 2 ohms, then wired those sets in series to the amp for a 4 ohm load. It sounded nice and clear, even though highly underpowered, but I decided to unhook my Kicker's because I'm planning to locally sell them, so I figured might as well unhook them. Well, for some reason when I just put the Alpine's on the amp (giving it the full 600-650w RMS, with the box still in the trunk, it hits harder than when I had all four hooked up. But when I had the Kicker box out of the trunk, its loud but not as deep. Could the box be a bit too small for my needs, or is this typical? Just out of curiosity. Feel free to harass me about mixing/matching, I just got what I could at the time. POTATO!
speedball1978 Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 thats because you're giving your alpine subs more power=hits harder, but with the kickers hooked up it was louder because you had more cone area, more subs you have the louder its gonna get,

Therefore you could maybe sell your cvrs to upgrade. I reckon you sell the subs and buy a nice DC or Fi or RE or something. These times are always great chances to upgrade x2 this, and the only reason i can see feasible as to why its louder, is because mixing subwoofers causes cancellation (cones moving at different rates and different amounts of excursion/force) and makes everything sound like shiet and quieter. so when you are putting MORE power to the same woofers there is virtually almost nothing causing them to cancel out the waves. hopefully thats something you can understand, i suck at explaining
