thanks for the reply GP, Honestly, i agree 100% with everything you said. About the soundstage, i agree. The reason i have it set up like this (the midranges and how the are mounted) is just because i wanted to try to put my components into my center console and i wanted to try to fiberglass,I was not trying to achieve anything more. I agree with the not being able to hear it because of my kneecaps, i have put this in my car tonight, and yes, my knee caps do make contact with the flush mount ring, just to make sure nothing terrible happens, in the end i am going to have a mesh grill guard over the speaker. And i am honestly a little upset that i didnt apply only resin to the wrapped console first, instead i went ahead and actually did the fiberglassing. But I am determined to make sure that the final product is exactly what i wanted, and that might take more time then i have this summer, but oh well.

Edit: Thanks jason also for your reply. And i agree, LSN2MEBOOM916 knows a lot, and is also very willing to help.

Well tommorow i might have more done or not, i have to go to granbury, about an hour away for the day so. I might work on it though when i get home through the middle of the night. I seem to be more of a night owl anyways

WOW.

Thanx for that huge compliment man. Coming from soemone with your level of ability, well damn I'm just feelin real good to hear it.

I will always do what I can to help a brotha out...esp here on SMD, and DEFINATELY a fellow Gen3 Teg owner.

Tex-

Wettin it up when it's stretched will you give you a nice (as nice as you wrap it that is) base to glass the rest to. The you can generally do all your "ugly reinforcing" on the inside that no one cares how it looks unless ur using plexi.

It looks like your makin some progress and thats always good.

I was gonna wait until you ran it and ask how the Imaging was but I figg'd since you'd already started I wouldn't bust ur balls on the imaging issue-technically, if you could clear ur knees, and put another mid on the door/kick side you might be able to achieve a nice suround sound image up front and just run 2 sets of components like 1 pair per front occupant? Just a thought.

Other than that, keep it up and I'll be sure to throw out any ideas if I can help and like I said:since it's GEN3-I'm totally tuned in bro. :D

well i dont think i am going to do a kick panel on driver side, however, i am going to probably add atleast a woofer and tweeter in the kick on the passenger side at some point.

I believe i said this is my first fiberglass project which i lied about actually, i meant like its my first difficult one, which requires the framing and the wrapping with fleece and all that. Before this i did make a mold of my passenger kickpanel. Thats all though. There is no mounting ring or anything else attached to it. I just taped off my factory kickpanel and layed resin and a little fiberglass on it and then i removed the fiberglass mold when it dried.

Yea the imaging is probably going to be a joke, but i bet the feeling of accomplishment, which hopefully i achieve, will overcome that. I just cant wait till the day where all i am worrying about is whether i should paint it or wrap it in some kind of vinyl or something.lol.

But i still have long days ahead of me.

-I try to create goals for me and have a schedule, like a gant chart if anyone who has microsoft project knows what that is. So i hope to have the first layer of body filler on by the weekend, and also have my new alt in by the weekend. I was going to try to do it by myself but it is really heavy so.

The LIGHTER you make your skeleton the lighter the overall/finished product will be.

I know it adds up quickly-that tiny box I did for the 2 CVR 8's is a heavy bish cuz I "filled in" a lot of gaps with mdf when i shoulda used more glass. Oh well it was just me playin around anyhoo.

But the point is-USE THINNER/LIGHTER WOOD.

I'm always skeptical to do it myself (and it really takes some skill to do it right) but look at the DASH BUILD GP2k2 did-remember the 1/4"X1/4" "strips" that he bent and resined in to make all those sexy ass curves? That tiny bit of wood is enough to attach the thin material to and glass over and adds like ZERO weight.

I know GP2K2's style is "the ideal" and it'll take HELLA practice before any of us are close to his skill level but thats the idea on making it LIGHTER.

well i added flush rings for my tweeters, and glassed them, added a little more fiberglass around the speaker rings as well.

so i started doing some filling today with some body filler, i applied body filler and sanded it probably 4 times. But these are the pictures of how it is going to end tonight, tommorow i am going to sand that with probably an 80 grit to start with, then fill in the necessary places, sand with a 120 grit, and probably do that up to a 300 or 400 grit. Then i am going to apply the rage gold.

So like i said, i did fill and sand about 4 or 5 times today, and the right and left sides were almost smooth, but of course not near perfect. I just added more body filler over the "smooth" surfaces and i am going to let it completely dry tonight. We will see how things look tommorow!

Man its good to see ur stickin on this and making some progress....but...

I can tell from those last pics^^^^ It doesn't look like you mixed anything in to "liquify" the filler...?

Why not? Fglass RESIN is right there and TRUST me it will make the sanding down process SOOOOO much easier.

It's a lil late now but on any more of you applications of "filler" or rage I would add some Fglass resin (about 20% Resin to 80% filler/rage) and let gravity smooth it out for you rather than having it go on like FROSTING and just FIGHTING the high and low spots.

The filler/rage/etc will STICK to w/e you're using to apply it and leave lil peaks as you pull away.

Adding the liqufier will minimize that.

I'd totally give it a try.

Other than that the trimmed area around the shifter is lookin good, the tweets should sit nicer w/ those trim rings I bet, just gotta 36-60grit em down flat, and why not resin more into the mid rings? make sure those rings are bonded to the material coverin em or it might be a nightmare when you mount the mids and have lil gaps around the edges.

Keep up the good work and make sure to snap hella pics :P
