I've been registered for a while but haven't been active yet (I was waiting to have my setup complete). I've ran into a few problems setting up my new system. I just got some new kicker comp. 12' inch sub woofers. I have both of them bridged on a 2000 watt concept amp (I have not tried it mono-blocked yet). The subs work fine and dandy but after a few minutes of banging the fuse under the hood will blow out. I have a 100 amp fuse under the hood and its burned two already which was a spare. This problem didn't seem to exist when I had one 15' hooked up to a 2000 watt lanzar amp, but now occurs with the 2000 watt concept amp and two kicker 12s. I seriously need to figure out this problem soon. I'm going to my local stereo shop tomorrow to see what might be the problem but I would like to know ahead of time before I do something stupid. Full setup: - 12 gauge power wire (I believe or 8gauge) - 8 gauge 3ft ground wire connected to a near seat bolt - 2 12 inch kicker competition subs bridged - 2000 watt concept amp - 100amp fuse under hood - Durango 2000 thank you in advance, I don't know if this is the correct section but it is general audio :-) Someone told me this: 100 Amps @ 12V = 1200 Watt2000 Watts @ 12V = 167 Amps You are blowing fuses because your new amp is exceeding the 100 amps your fuse allows. More importantly, eventually your going to burn your car to the ground with that 12ga wire. 2000 Watt amps should have no less than 4Ga wiring. BTW you didn't mention having any upgraded battery cell or alternator, have you considered that the stock alternator on your vehicle supplies your entire car with 127amps, in other words get ready to buy a replacement alternator when that one burns out. One more thing, tony is incorrect. Your fuse holder should be between 6-18 inches from the battery, not directly on it, that's just irresponsible. The impedance load handling of an amp has nothing to do with blowing fuses, and you cannot bridge a mono block amp, bridging requires two channels.

Steve I don't know why but everytime I see your new paint I want a Dr. Pepper...... is this normal? heres an analogy for you. running a high power stereo without a fuse is like having unprotected sex with that hot chick at the bar with the sketchy sexual history. All wires are connected securely. Could it be that my ground wire is too small? Because my ground is smaller than my power.

I didn't sand it down. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a 150amps fuse. Another thing I noticed, when the subs were hitting, before the fuse would go out the lights would blink on and off a little. It didn't do this before with the 1 15 I had.

Get an 8 guage kit and Ill bet you anything it stops blowing. or even a 4 gauge kit. Guest Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 im surprised how that wire has not caught fire yet. 8 gauge can handle around 50 amps and you are pulling over 100 through it. this seriously scares me. upgrade to the largest power wire your amplifier can accept, it may be 4 gauge or 8 gauge. regardless, you always want to run the biggest wire possible. on your ground, regardless of ANY GROUND. you want to sand down the paint so the lug you bolt it down to is touching straight shiny metal. stop upgrading fuses. if a 100amp fuse blows, something is wrong. a 150 amp can only make it worse. also, ground to the frame, not a seat bolt. terrible ground. edit: http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?category=Amp%20Installation%20Kits theres a link to some amazing wire. buy the kit that is appropriate for your amp. not a 4 channel kit.
