Coolwazabi Posted August 8, 2007 Report Share Posted August 8, 2007 i'm looking for a nice set of 6.5 coax or comps and realized how lil i knew about them... so whats the difference "if any" with the 2,3,4 and i think i seen 5 way speakers ? i'll probably put them in the door if there coax and the kick if there comps.. *note* i looked on the forum and didn't see anyone else who had a question that would answer this. sean 371 Posted August 28, 2007 Report Share Posted August 28, 2007 yes focal 3 ways are amazzzzing. i dont think youre looking at the utopia's, b/c those are more expensive than $500, but yes i would strongly recommend focal. Save your money and buy a nicely designed 2 way components system. (3 way if within your budget) If you keep the tweeter within I would say 12" from the mid, you will see a good transition from mid/tweet. A huge 24-36-48 db slope isnt always necessary, if the crossover is designed right, you can get a very beautiful, reasitic sound from a set of 6db or 12db oct xovers. I personally have taken part in designing, prototyping a 4 way way 53 speaker set, and with all those speakers 1- tweeter, 8 high mids, 16 mids, and 28 mid bass speakers, it honestly couldnt sound any better than $100- 2 way Polk Audio speakers at Fry's, minus the fancy looks, and $10,000 price tag I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
