Power Vs. OHM

Quick question. If i have a higher ohm load on the amplifier does it require a higher amount of power from the electrial. cuz i was having a convo with a dude from SonicElectronix today that confused the balls outta me.

The OHM has nothing to do with the electrical only in the sense that the lower the ohm the more amps needed because there is more RMS being fed, right? fml...

reason why im confused is, i rewired my L7s to work @ 2ohm instead of the 0.5 ohm that theyre running at now, and i BARELY even got them to move and at the same time every time they would hit(even at a volume of like..10) my power would go down to 12volts from 13.8. Then i rewired them back to 0.5 ohm and they kick now AND i sit pretty at 13.8 unless im hittin it hard and if i rev to 1500rpm i go back to 13.8. SO, long story short... i have no idea now .

Only thing i can imagine is that my amp wasnt able to power my subs with the measly amount of RMS it was putting out at 2 ohm. other than that i might of wired it wrong? OTHER THAN THAT... i have no idea .

the best advice is get a new amp for those subs. They can handle a whole lot more than a 400 rms amp if that with the voltage you are giving them

The lower the ohm load, the more current your amp will draw because of less resistance. 400 rms will have the same current draw at 1 ohm as compared to 8 ohms, or any other ohm load. If you have an amp that does 1000 rms at 1 ohm and another amp that does 1000 rms at 4 ohms, they will draw the same current, provided they have the same efficiency.

@ 2 ohms, your amp only puts X amount of watts, but at the lower ohm load it puts out way more because of less resistance. Make sense?
