Guest grim83 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Ok just a few quick questions. I have a 12in AA Mayhem and on the site it says the recommended box size is 1.75-3cubes my current box i got with the sub is about 3.5cubes after displacement and about 4.25 before so would their be any harm if i switched to a smaller box like say 2cubes. im curious because i have almost no room in the trunk now and while i can live with the trade off (no space lots of bass) i would like to use the smaller one if it wont hurt the sound too much. also when building a ported box how should i choose the tuning to use and how do i actually get that tunning. sorry noob questions im sure but i dont want to screw up and waste time and money Quote
Sanitarium Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 2-2.5 cubes after displacement for 1 12 is fine, hell I've ran 2 12's in 2.5 cubes with great results. Quote

If you don't, it's not like you trashed your old box. Quote

Sanitarium Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 true any help with the tuning questions? get torre's box calculator, shoot for 30-35 hz range, you won't notice a big difference between say.. 31 and 34, if any at all. Just remember, the lower you tune, the more box you need. Also, 12-16 square inches of port per cube so. 24-32 square inches for a 2 cube box and so on. Quote

Do you mean lower tuning needs more airspace? If so, then it's not true, except if u mean that the port takes up more physical room. (so the box get's physicly bigger.) So the last expalation is true , i get it . Edited October 9, 2010 by kirill007 Quote Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.

NO, i mean the lower you tune, the longer the port, the longer the port the more displacment, the more displacment the bigger you need to make the box to make up for it. Quote
