Whenever you smell that, your either clipping or over-excurting the subs. Good luck with it man if you have your enclosure too small or port area too small, then your woofer cant move enough to cool the coils. just another approach to it....... the only time i ever killed a solo-x spair was when i tried my 18 in the old enclosure from my 12. and i burnt up for that very reason.....
