X2, any words from chicken yet? Must be somewhat irritating having something so close to done, just sit there when it could be bursting ear drums and making people bald.

Greetings Steve,

I have a couple of questions regarding the enclosure design for chicken's caddy. First of all, fantastic work. Before I get to my questions, I would like everyone to know that I went through nearly 40 pages of the thread looking for this info, but I either overlooked it or did not see it. Hopefully the flaming is not near as bad over here as at ca.com. Secondly, is that particular design a bandpass? It looks like a 6th order design. I usually build your very typical sealed and ported enclosures for folks, however a gentleman is wanting me to do a build in his Avalanche that is not going to lend itself to anything resembling simple. The only thing I can really come up with in my mind is a design that looks exactly what you did in chicken's truck (on a much smaller scale of course). 2 questions, the chamber behind the subs is tuned low right? If the design is indeed a bandpass, then what kind of tuning, volume, and port area is the front chamber? I really want to understand the methods to madness on bandpass designs, but they seem to be quite confusing.

Brandon

P.S.

Where did you get the form finder piece for doing curves when you built the wall? Does it simply hold it's shape when you press it into the contours?

Chicken is still drunk as hell. He is havin fun so dont worry about him.....i mean im a little worried about him but he is a grown man so ill let him handle his own business......anyway it still needs paint, it still needs rims, it still needs a few nick-nacks on my part but nothing serious. Once again, even if it was done, it wouldnt make any differnce. He just is not interested in this caddy at the moment AT ALL. Once he sobers up, he will for sure. Until then, i have other stuff to do and ill just make sure this thing doesnt get damaged, like it would if he had it LOL!! When he drinks, knobs get turned and it dont matter which one or which way, its gettin turned......usually UP.

anyway, cross your fingers that he will come back to normal again, he is a GREAT guy and i really hope he does come back.......SOON.

Although it looks, and probably acts like a 6th order, its really just two ported boxes aimed at each other :D It "plots" better that way anyway LOL.

Thanks man. So what you are saying is that you simply set out to design 2 ported boxes and it simply turned out like a 6th order? Did you think about what would happen in that front chamber at all or were you primarily concerned with the ported box alignment? I may try my hand, but I just don't want it to sound like total poo if I screw up on the front chamber.

I am ordering a form finder today sir :clapping: . Thanks for the tips.

i guess you could say that.....

it didnt "plot" too good as a 6th order but as a ported box it looked pretty good - it sounds better then it plotted on either one of them though. I guess i got lucky. Thats what it comes down to 99% of the time with any box IMO. No matter how good it looks on paper it still needs to be tried out in real life.

oh on the form finder, no prob! dont forget about the SMD discount! its either meade or smd in the coupon code, i forget..
