AMI CUSTOMS Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 Got it installed this weekend, I love the kit, very solid, and solid built alts as well, rated at 230 each(top 3) and I clamped 242 each at 2k rpm. My factory HO alt is rated at 350 but in my testing best I could get was 220 so I say it is a 220 amp alt at 2k. Installed and controlled by computer at the moment, XS Power VCM won't control all four for some reason. Gonna find out on Monday why. AMI CUSTOMS Posted October 29, 2010 Author Report Posted October 29, 2010 I got ahold of xs power a few days back and they said that I could just wire the vcm up to 1, 2, or 3 alts and it wouldn't cause any issues or I could put the red ignition wire on a switch and only turn the vcm on at competitions. Not sure what I want to do as of right now, leaning toward the two or 3 config setup to control voltage. They said they would look into it and get back to me and let me know if it might be a possible programming issue with the vcm. But I have yet to hear back. I am curious if Meade is having any issues with his? I know he charges high all the time, so not sure. XS power also said it could be just because the alts are cold and it is charging higher because of that. Anyway, they are all working great on just regulators controlling them at the time being. I have a triple DC setup on my Silverado and love it. My set point on the alts is around 15v so when I start up on a cold morning im charging around 15.1 - 15.2 volts for a minute or two till things warm up. Then its a steady 14.6 - 14.9 no matter what I throw at them. I dont think Ive seen it below 14.4v since they have been installed. I dont use a VCM so I cant help you with that one. That quad setup looks sick BTW.
