Coil size vs power

Ok we all know you can over power a good sub without much worry, but im curious what the limits are. I was talking to madvibes and he was talking about how his 3in voice coils would burn up on the 4k hes giving them within about 30mins, so what im looking at is if i had a 3in voice coil sub how big an amp could i put on it for an extended period like as in a daily set up. also what would the rough estimate equation be for this so i could look at different size voice coils like 2.5in or 4in.

It would depend on how well the sub can cool itself, what wire is used and what you are playing on it. Not just coil size. The DC lvl 5 has a 3" coil and it is pretty damn strong, I don't know how well it would take 4k for half an hour though. It probably could though.

oh no i understand that it has to do with more than coil size but i was meaning for just a general thing how would you tell just how far you could push a sub in a daily set up

either you test and find out your self... or seee if some one else has done it and if they had good results

even if some one has did it, doesnt mean you would have the same results though.. which is something that seems to confuse alot of people on these forums lately
