Looking into getting d1400's with a vcm module. I'm just curious if my 2000 pontiac sunfires stock electrical could handle charging at 16 volts without frying the BCM, Instrument cluster, sensors, etc. Any reports of frying of such things?

no youll need a h/o alt for sure you wont be powering a 16v current off what 105a alt? and when you run 16v you do know you need to run a splitter for your regular car electronics because your car is usually okay up to 15.x volts but 16v its a no no

i could be wrong but i think for daily driver i just summed that all up

GM ecu's can take up to 16.8 volts, do some research....LOL

Not worried about the alt in this scenario, more worried about other electronics. Seen a video of a gmc stock 105 amp alt and said it had 100,000 miles on it with the vcm and d1400 batteries. I of course want an HO alt to go with the vcm, but no point in buying a vcm alt and 14v batteries if its going to render my car useless two weeks down the road. I just like the idea of a higher voltage system in my car if I'm going to upgrade, if it can be done safely.

Suggested to go that high? NO, I wouldn't advise that, once you start to get that high with the voltage weird shit starts happening. I have had my walled sierra actually up to 16.2 with ZERO issues on a 12 volt system with the quad alts just to see how it would like it. It did fine. I did notice on other GM's and my truck that when you start to raise that voltage up over 16 volts, the main components that really doesn't like it is the fuel pump, on my truck that bitch was screaming. I have another competitor I know that ran 16 volts on his daily with zero issues. You are gonna charge anywhere from 2.2 - 2.9 higher then the base voltage(not rest voltage) of the system. Example, 12 volts you charge at 14.2 - 14.9, 14 volts at 16.2-16.9, and 16 volts at 18.2 - 18.9, you can go higher will all these, you may peak up to 19.5 on a 16 volt system for example, just know your battery limits. And yes the GM ecu has no problem with voltage in the 16 volts range, haven't tested past 16 volts, so I can't say if it is higher, I don't have to brass at the moment to brick my ecu yet.....LOL

Where's the answer then? Lets see where you research this stuff? I've looked before and NEVER found a REAL Technological answer from an expert. Just people giving their opinions on the subject... Not saying you aren't right, just wanna know where you get your info from...

My testing and other people that have done it and I have seen the voltage read outs to confirm it was actually at said voltage confirmed by DMM. <<<<<Is that a run on, felt like it. :pardon:
