ported clamshell help/build

if i was you id take the clamshell out and just do a straight wall ported

theres no way i could fit all 16 in a wall. straight wall id fit maybe 6 or 9 at most. i really want to keep all 16 in. hopefully i can get some feedback on my idea, ill probably try my idea anyways because honestly theres not much else i can do lol. just how much to take out is the question. after i do that, ill look into adding more power/doing a new box.

With that much power/cone area you should definitely be moving some air. It sounds like you are having severe cancellation/phase issues

ive been reading up a bit on that, still feel like i dont know nearly enough. after reading neofrogs thread "lets talk acoustics" i didnt think it was gonna be that big of a problem. guessing the angle on the subs isnt enough.

awesome i have an assload of schoolwork coming up this week so nothings probably gonna happen till the weekend. if possible, could you just post in here so i can get as much feedback as possible? thanks!!!

regardless of how this box turns out and what i can get it to do, im still pretty hooked onto the clamshell build. so if it comes down to having to build a new box itll most likely be clamshell #2.

oh yea, i haven't touched my stock toyota speakers yet, ordered these today

just gonna have them hooked up to the headunit to start and see how they play. i have 4 6x9s and 4 tweeters that are going on the sides of the sub box when i get it finalized. im runnin a bit low on money right now so i can't do anything else too major right now. paying rent and eating has priority over my car audio, just barely though. graduating soon though, if i can get job that pays decent ill be looking to do something crazy (if what i'm doing now doesn't already qualify)

so i've playing full tilt more and more while driving (getting used to the shaking of everything) and it really sounds a lot different than 4 l7s in a huge ass box with a huge ass port. i listen to a lot of hip hop and rap, it hits the lows really well but all the hits seem tight/short. hopefully whatever neofrog suggests me doing will fix the problem but i honestly cant see anything making a major difference besides doing a new box. one thing i completely forgot about were putting 45s in the back of the box(like an idiot). i'm gonna start sketching up new designs while waiting for suggestions. i can extend the box a half foot out or so and squeeze out a bit more volume. if it does come down to building a new box i'm definitely gonna take more time and be a lot more patient. and definitely run the design by more people before i jump in and start building. graduating college soon and im gonna have a lot of free time daily for a while before i start working.

*edit - drawin a whole lotta nothing on ideas for new boxes lol.

was posted in neofrogs 16 10's build. based on this and neofrogs current setup it seems that the amount of space in the port matters quite a bit, something i didn't consider when i put mine together. looking more into 4th order for next box if necessary, seems more common and predictable than this damn clamshell. box specs will be 52 depth 33 height 37 width (37.5 is cutting it a bit too close)

*edit - another idea for tweaking with current box is sticking a piece of wood to separate the space between the woofers.
