SQMonte Posted January 3, 2011 Author Report Posted January 3, 2011 thats a helpful vid for those not familiar with sketchup 18sqin is too much for me, as is tuning in last design IMO basically u have to find the balance that works for you 16-18sqin per cuft will have more output, but will play less notes overall and it will be more peaky... which is good if u going to be worried about metering tuning to 36-38 means u pretty much shouldnt play below 30-32hz otherwise the sub wont have enough cone control and u risk overexcursion dd recommends 40hz tuning, and in all honesty, thats great if u dont play my music, lol... but if u do u are going to be playing below tuning all the time Yeah it is, watching that video learned me how to do up a box.....yeah, learned me!Oh boy, back to the drawing board I guess. I want my system to be able to play at least into the upper 20's...not worried about how it does on the meter cause I'll probably never meter it....is it reasonable for me to expect to be able to play C&S music and regular music equally well? I'm gonna get back on the calculator tonite and see what I can come up with Last question, do you think a 2.5" port is too narrow for this sub? I've been trying to stay away from that size, thinking it's too small...should I not let that be a concern? fecupe2001 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Damn, if you want to play below 30 hz then YES, you need a new box design, what i can tell is you that the 2512´s play very nice below tuning frequency, i would tune that box around 32 hz with something like 15 SQ of port per cubic feet then, so you can play a big rage of frequencies! fecupe2001 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 2.5" should be ok, isn´t that small really, what´s the height of the box? try getting at least 14 SQ of port per cubic feet! SQMonte Posted January 3, 2011 Author Report Posted January 3, 2011 2.5" should be ok, isn´t that small really, what´s the height of the box? try getting at least 14 SQ of port per cubic feet!At most, height will be 16". I'd like to keep it as short as possible cause I have no rear speakers and want to give the air plenty of room to travel above the box and into the cabin through the 6x9 openings. fecupe2001 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 yep , i said from the beggining, i would get 2-2.2 cubic feet for that sub, specially since you want to hit below 30 hz, bigger box would allow you to play lower frequencies stronger without bottoming out I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains.
