finkster Posted January 9, 2011 Report Share Posted January 9, 2011 Get a test tone cd, get a bunch of tones from 60 to 200 hz because each meter turns on in a different frequency range. It would be a good idea to o scope your head unit first to see where it clips. if not I guess the 3/4 rule would go into effect. Turn the track on and connect one lead to the tip prong, and the other to the outer metal edge of the rca (you're checking one at a time). turn up the volume to where you should be gradually and see where it peaks. Multiply this number by .707. That is to the best of my knowledge on how to do it. oh yea, set your meter to AC, not DC.
