Kinda the same way I'm going now lol. Its been acting funny every now and again so I noticed when I touch a plug wire I get a nasty shock. So I replace the wires but still have a hesitating issue. It doesn't happen all the time?? I want to change the plugs but I was told not too because if they are seized in or if they are original and never been changed I could snap them or pull the threads out of the head.

Rest In Peace mother.

Could a dirty air filter cause a rougher idle? I also have a one way valve off the air intake, is that the pcv or what?

Thanks Guys!

In theory yes. Take it out and examine it. Another cheap sensor is the idle air control valve, which can affect idle- But if you have higher mileage on your car and are showing codes anything along the lines of having to change 02's or Maf's replace the PVC assembly first! For my vehicle it was $35 and although I'm glad I did a lot of other maintenance. I could have saved a lot of money fora simple problem!

Is your hesitating issue like when your slowing to a stop and then trying to go and it just chokes for a split second?

Say I stop, when I try to go it just doesn't do anything then stutters then goes like normal.it hesitates for like a second. If I stop and it does it if I sit there it idles like complete crap like it wants to die.

I had a code whem my pcv line was leaking. Went away after my fix.

Hmm So you replaced the whole pcv line? Is the service engine light on?, any more codes? or just still a slight hesitation?

About the plugs- I have never herd that. I would replace them if all else fails! If you do replace the plugs- the tips of your plugs should, if burning correctly have white looking tips. That means you got a decent combustion on that cylinder! darker oily looking ones could signify a more significant problem.

Also what about some of your other vac lines? Do you have any more leading into your throttle body?

Look I'm not sure. But this sounds at best like vacuum line problems. If you have not done so start by replacing the (entire) pcv assembly.

And any other Hoses that you can see running into your throttle body, manifold! This is the cheapest route to take first

If that does not work change the plugs! And if not that try the idle control valve.

I had what sounds almost exactly like your problem! Once I got up to speed no problems. But the stutter and stalling out got worse over time

Try your dist cap as well! All things tune up related but after your vac lines!! LMK

What car do you have and if the filter is really bad anyrhing can cause it.

Its a 5spd 98 Escort wagon, with 200k on it

Its only a 1.8L 4 banger, so its not like i expect it to purr like a kitten, but It's just pretty rough, especially at start up, it can putter a bit. but if you turn on the blower/heater then it idels even choppier, but i can expect that with the alt putting a load on the idling engine.

great car though! just wondering what could make it run a little rough like it does.

Thanks again guys!

And im sorry if this ould be conidered a thread jack, i figured it was along the same lines as the OP's issue..
