DodgerCannon Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Hi Just planning out my port for my two level 5 18s. Just wondering what port area and tuning the level 5s like? I want it to play flat from 20hz to 50hz... and shift masses of air (hair tricks ect). Also thinking of running them in 15cuft.... is this too big? Also aiming for big numbers. Power is 4 sundown 1500Ds @ 0.7ohm Cheers fellas. Quote

hdorre Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Will they be strapped at .7? Please say no. Getting dual .7 or 1 ohm subs would be a better choice. DodgerCannon Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 0.7ohm per amp....1.4ohm strapped. The lvl 5s are dual 0.7ohm Quote

Getting dual 1.4 or 2 ohm subs would be a better choice. i think they have to be 1.4s to get to .7 Im sorry. I meant wiring each set of amps to 1.4 or 2 ohms. My bad. You should get dual .7s or dual 1 ohm coils. If I were to use 2 amps on a single sub, Id either strap or use Rockford's MasterSync Technology. If you already have the subs, have you thought of getting a single amp? That would allow you to wire to .7 ohms. Maybe a Soundigital 8k or 12k? Team_DC-Derrick Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 do 11 cubes after displacement, tune to 35hz, it will play down to about 24hz respectfully, and up to about 45ish, atleast mine did when i had the 3... do about 15 sq inch of port per cube, and should turn out nicely Quote The DC Integra 3 18s to 6 15 build log Team_DC-Derrick's Youtube Team DC Audio where theres a will theres a wall....... DodgerCannon Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 Cheers guys... here in the UK lots of people use around 8-10 sq" of port area per cube... I've have good results using such low port area with low tuning (27hz :-D). But after joining the smd forum I'm thinking of using 15-20sq" to see how results differ... I might use blockers to bring the tuning right down from say 38 to 25hz. Would a bigger port be louder than a tighter one? Quote
hdorre Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) A smaller box increases power handling. A bigger box increases efficiency. So, a bigger box will be louder. Just make sure the sub will handle the combination of the amps and box size.
